Watch out Martha Stewart, Meghan Markle is 'working' on a new cooking show

Meghan Markle is working on a new cooking show for Netflix, as part of her mega deal with the streaming giant.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been working with Netflix for almost four years, after stepping down from The Firm. When the royals jet-setted across the Atlantic to settle down in their forever home, a Montecito mansion, they signed up to a number of deals. Prince Harry later said they were forced to find income after claiming dad King Charles ‘cut him off financially’ when they split from the palace. Since then, he and Meghan Markle released a six-episode docu-series where they spoke about their time in the royal family again, following their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. Harry also produced another docu-series for his pride project, the Invictus Games, which released last year. Now Meghan Markle is stepping into the shoes of Martha Stewart with her new cooking show with Netflix.

Meghan Markle’s new Netflix show is all about cooking

The 42-year-old former TV star is currently working on two non-fiction series with her husband and the streaming service.

The first will feature the mom-of-two as she ‘celebrates the ‘joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining and friendship’.

The second project will follow the world of professional polo and was shot at the US Open Polo Championship. The 39-year-old Duke has been playing polo for years, so he’ll feel right at home. It’s not known if Harry, brother to Prince William, will be in front or behind the camera.

The two Netflix shows – cooking and polo – which don’t have a title nor release dates, will be executive produced by Harry and Meghan Markle, writes Deadline.

It comes after the celebrity couple signed on the dotted line for a multi-year deal with Netflix in September 2020, said to be worth $100m. As part of the contract, they agreed to create original content that “informs but also gives hope” under their company Archewell Productions.

The duo is also working on developing a film adaptation of Carley Fortune’s romance novel, called Meet Me at the Lake.

More to come from the Sussexes

Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer, said in January the pair have a lot of moving parts.

They’ve been busy.

Bela said at a press event: “They have a couple of unscripted things they’re working on with Brandon [Reigg].”

Reigg is the platform’s vice president of unscripted and documentary.

“And they actually have, like, a bunch of development,” Bela said.

They added: “All very early development, with a movie, a TV show and a couple of unscripted shows. But yeah, the movie’s great.”
